PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a micro-droplet generating device to discharge micro-droplets. SOLUTION: The method of driving the micro-droplet generating device is for driving the micro-droplet generating device comprising a pressure generating chamber 2 having a Helmholtz resonance cycle and a piezoelectric vibrator 11 for expanding/contracting the pressure generating chamber 2 to discharge micro-droplets from a nozzle opening 6. The method of driving the micro-droplet generating device includes a step of expansion for inducing the vibration of Helmholtz resonance frequency by expanding the pressure generating chamber 2 and vibrating a meniscus of the nozzle opening 6 to such a degree as not to discharge droplets; a first holding step for retaining the pressure generating chamber 2 in the expanded state; a first contraction step for contracting the capacity of the pressure generating chamber 3 by the smaller capacity change than the capacity change in the expansion step by applying signals changing in the opposite direction from a first direction after the movement of the meniscus is reversed to the nozzle opening 6 side; and a second holding step for retaining the state in which the capacity of the pressure generating chamber 2 is retained constant and the Helmholtz resonance vibration is superposed on the meniscus to discharge micro-droplets.
