The invention relates to a method and a device for transporting a plurality of articles, especially postal items. At least one transport process from an intermediate storage area (Af) to a continuation point is carried out, a start signal (start) being generated. Every article that was conveyed to the intermediate storage area (Af) prior to the generation of the start signal (start) is removed from the intermediate storage area (Af). The articles (R0, S1) transported during this transport process are transferred from the intermediate storage area (Af) to the transport means (Beh-1) used for the transport process. Once the articles (R0, S1) are transferred to the transport means (Beh-1), an end signal (Q1) is generated. It is stored which articles (R0, S1, R1) were conveyed to the intermediate storage area (Af) between the generation of the start signal (start) and the generation of the end signal (Q1). The transport process is carried out. The articles (R0, S1) transported in the transport means (Beh-1) are removed from the transport means (Beh-1). A data record which is stored for these articles (R0, S1) is determined for every article (R0, S1) that was transported during this transport process. The stored data record is determined only from among such data records that were generated for those articles (R0, S1, R1) that were conveyed to the intermediate storage area (Af) between the generation of the start signal (start) and the generation of the end signal (Q1).
