PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for fabricating an optical fiber changing an entire available optical fiber preform to the optical fiber by effectively sealing a gap between a tapered portion at a proximal end side of the optical fiber preform to be drawn and a preform insertion opening of a drawing furnace. SOLUTION: The apparatus for fabricating an optical fiber includes the drawing furnace 20 provided with the insertion opening 25 for receiving the perform 1, a feed mechanism 80 configured to support one end of the preform 1 so as to feed into the drawing furnace 20, a first sealing unit 50 configured to seal a clearance gap between the preform 1 and the insertion opening 25, and a second sealing unit 70 configured to seal a gap between the preform 1 and the first sealing unit 50 when the tapered portion 2 formed at the one end side of the preform 1 passes through the insertion opening 25.
