PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module capable of stably operating a laser diode because of improved heat conduction property between an element packaging block and a Peltier element. SOLUTION: In an optical module 301, a slope 12a of a tilting part 12b of an element packaging block 12 is tilted, so that the thickness of the tilting part 12b between the slope 12a and a base 12d decreases as a distance from a packaging part 12c increases, and an incident angleθof light from a laser diode 11 becomes 0°<θ<45°. Furthermore, the slope 12a of the tilting part 12b of the element packaging block 12 is tilted, so that the thickness of the tilting part 12b between the slope 12a and the base 12d decreases as a distance from the packaging part 12c increases and when the incident angle of light from the laser diode is defined asθand the thickness of the tilting part closest to the packaging part is defined as D0, a length L in a tilting direction may also be L>D0/cosθ.
