PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halogen-containing benzoporphyrin and a new method for easily producing the compound. SOLUTION: The method for producing the halogen-containing benzoporphyrin (4) comprises reduction of phthalonitrile (1) to form isoindole (2), the reaction of the isoindole with tripyran (3) and the oxidization of the reaction product.
