PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress error print from taking place when a current set paper mode is not a mode compatible with a printing sheet used for printing actually in an image forming apparatus capable of operating in a normal mode for printing on plain paper and in an envelope mode for printing on an envelope to prevent creasing the envelope with lowering a pressure by a fixing/pressurizing roller pair in a fixing part when printing on the envelope. SOLUTION: When the pressure set by a pressure varying part of the fixing/pressurizing roller pair is not compatible with the paper to be inserted between the fixing/pressurizing roller pair, the image forming apparatus display an error message to notify a user of incompatibility and forbids operation, whereby error print is prevented from taking place in advance. When the plain paper is to be inserted though the envelope mode is set, line speed of the fixing roller pair is lowered to perform fixing even under a low-pressure condition.
