PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chatter simulation device and method, capable of accurately simulating a chatter phenomenon in grinding work. SOLUTION: The chatter simulation device 100 comprises: a relative position calculation part 104 for calculating a relative position between a workpiece 3 and a grinding wheel 21 in a relative moving direction of the grinding wheel 21 to the workpiece 3 based on an instruction value; a removal quantity calculation part 105 for calculating a removing quantity based on the shape of the workpiece 3 stored in a workpiece shape storage part 101, the shape of the grinding wheel 21 stored in a grinding wheel shape storage part 102, and the relative position; a workpiece shape change part 106 for changing the shape of the workpiece 3 based on the removing quantity; a grinding resistance calculation part 107 for calculating a grinding resistance based on the removing quantity; a displacement calculation part 109 for calculating a displacement quantity of relative moving directional relative displacement of the grinding wheel 21 and the workpiece 3 which results from the grinding resistance; a displacement correction part 110 for correcting the relative position based on the displacement quantity; and a chatter determination part 112 for determining the presence/absence of chatter.
