Provided is a fast reactor (1) comprising a reactor container (7) containing a coolant, a core (2) housed in the reactor container (7), a core supporting plate (13), a reflector (4), a partition (6) arranged to surround the reflector (4) on the side of the reactor container (7), for forming a passage of the coolant, a thermal shield (40) arranged to cover at least one of the core (2) side and the reactor container (7) side of the partition (6), and a neutron shield (108). The thermal shield (40) is mounted on the partition (6). The thermal shield (40) includes a metallic thermal shield plate (40b) and a heat insulator (40a) mounted in the thermal shield plate (40b), and has its inside filled with an inert gas (40c). By the thermal shield (40), the heat insulation of the partition (6) can be improved to suppress the heat exchange between primary coolants (21) on the core side and on the side of the reactor container (7) of the partition (6).
