The aim of the invention is to provide a column (10) which is conventionally used in shelf construction with an adapter rail (25) so that structural elements (12 16) of an item of furniture, for example a counter, can be added. For this purpose, the adapter rail (25) has a square profile, open at one corner. The limbs (26) defining the open corner are provided with respective flanges (27) that are bent outwards at right angles. The flanges (27) of the adapter rail (25) extend in parallel to each other and are provided with hooks (28) for hanging the adapter rail (25) in longitudinal slots (20) of the column (10). All limbs (26, 30) of the adapter rail (25) are provided with longitudinal slots (31, 32) of their own for hanging connecting elements (12, 15) and panel elements (16). |
