947,216. Exciting dynamo-electric machines; control of D.C. motors. SOC. GENERALE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES, ALSTHOM. May 4, 1960 [May 6, 1959], No. 15768/60. Headings H2A and H2J. A generator 2 having a series field winding 2 and a separately-excited winding 3 is also provided with a shunt winding 4 in opposition to winding 3 to limit the generator voltage when the load 6 is suddenly reduced, e.g. by wheel-slip at starting when the generator feeds traction motors. A reversing switch 10 is provided so that the winding 4 may be used to aid the separate excitation during a later or final portion of the starting cycle. The winding 4 may be energized at will from the generator itself or from the separate source 7 by the use of switch 11. A rheostat 9 is used to control the output of the generator during the starting sequence. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the switch 11 and rheostat 9 are replaced by a pair of rheostats. |
