A process for producing a saponified cellulose ester film is provided to form a film with durability without severe crosslinking condition(curing condition) including the excess addition of a cross-linking agent, heating promotion, and ionizing radiation increase. A process for producing a saponified cellulose ester film comprises (i) a step for applying the alkali aqueous solution(12) containing water, organic solvent and alkaline agent to a cellulose ester film(10) and (ii) a step for saponifying the cellulose ester film with the alkali water solution, wherein the amount of a plasticizer on the saponified surface of the cellulose ester film measured by an ATR/IR method becomes 0.25 or less.
