A method for processing the jam and an image forming apparatus using the same are provided to extend the lifetime of a fuser roller by stopping the operation before the jam becomes worse based on information about whether a paper between a transfer roller and a photosensitive drum and the sensing result of an exit sensor. An image forming apparatus stands by until the second check time passes when a feed sensor is turned on(410), and then receives a signal from the exit sensor after the predetermined time passes(420). The image forming apparatus determines whether a paper exists between a photosensitive drum and a transfer roller(430). If so, the image forming apparatus determines that the type of a jam is a wrap jam or an accordion jam(450) and then stops the operation of rollers comprised in the image forming apparatus(455). If the exit sensor is turned on, the image forming apparatus determines whether the exit sensor is turned off(460).
