A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided to prevent heat generation and circuit damage due to the frequent switching by performing on of a subfield with low weight regardless of data in case that the variation of the data between adjacent pixels in an image to be displayed is increased. The variation of data supplied to address electrodes of the panel is detected for displaying an image(300). A signal processor checks whether the detected variation of the data is larger than a predetermined reference value(310). If the detected variation of the data is larger than a predetermined reference value, the number of subfields to be on regardless of the inputted image data is determined(320). The subfields are on as much as the number of the subfields with low weight among the plurality of subfields regardless of the data(330). |
