PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional bar code reader which has a fixed-focus lens for imaging a bar code can not decide the bar code since an image of the bar code is not properly imaged on the photodetection surface of an image pickup element even in an irradiation pattern for aiming and therefore defocused or too small. SOLUTION: This bar code reader measures the distance to the bar code by a distance measurement part and gives notice of whether or not a current read position is within the range of a focusing position according to focus information obtained by a focus information detection part by arranging a display LED and a speaker and making light emission intervals, beep sound generation intervals, etc., with the light emission frequency, of the LED, the timbre or generation frequency of a beep sound, a voice guidance, and the light emission frequency of an aiming pattern to indicate that the read position is too far away or near about the focusing position, thereby indicating the direction in which the current position should be moved to the focusing position. |
