897,607. Piston rings. BARBERO, F. Jan. 17, 1961 [Jan. 25, 1960; April 21, 1960], No. 1875/61. Class 122 (1). A scraper piston ring consists of a split annular body 1, Fig. 6, having respectively cylindrical inner and conical outer peripheries 6, 7, and a plurality of axial protuberances 2, 3, Fig. 2, separated by recesses 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP> on its end faces and terminating short of the outer periphery of the body so as to form peripheral recesses 4, 5. Resilient annular packing elements 8, 9 are disposed against the end faces of the body and have their external edges 10, 11 of the same diameter as the outermost edge of the body so that the ring is provided with three scraper edges as separate planes. Alternatively, each packing element, Fig. 7, has two scraper lips 16, 17 so that the ring comprises five scraper edges. Waste matter and lubricant are removed from the cylinder wall through the recesses 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP>, 4, 5. A split polygonal spring 12, Fig. 5, having slots 13, 14 urges the ring outwardly against the cylinder wall. |
