A method and an apparatus for setting up input method of a character are provided to set up an input type of characters at a user disposition regardless a maker of a character input apparatus. A character input type setting apparatus comprises a control unit(100), an IME(Input Method Editor) setting unit(102), a memory(104), a graphic processing unit(106), and a display unit(108). The character input type setting apparatus is connected to a input unit(110) via wired or wireless line. The input unit comprises a command key button for the control request and a number key button. The input unit is able to include a symbol key button for a special function. The input unit is connected to the control unit through a wired signal line. The input unit is a remote controller for a digital data broadcasting service request. If the input unit is the remote controller, the input unit is connected to the control unit wirelessly.
