A strap retractor comprises a housing 10, retractor spool 22, a restraint strap 14 wound on the retractor spool and an opening 40 having a device to resist twisting of the restraint strap. The opening may be equal to between two and eight times the thickness of a strap. The housing may be a retractor cover or a barrier hosing. The opening may be provided with at least one guide surface 50, 60, 70, 80 having at least one slope. The guide surfaces can be integrally formed with the retractor housing or can be provided by an insert piece which attaches to the housing. The guide surface may be disposed along an upper wall of the opening and be curvilinear and outwardly diverging. More specifically, the guide surface may have slopes that vary along its length whereby the guide surface is approximately vertical near a leading edge of the guide surface and is approximately horizontal near a trailing edge. |
