A motion vector determining method is provided to select one motion vector if a co-located macro block of a list 1 reference picture of a direct mode of a B picture has two motion vectors, and induce a motion vector of the direct mode of the B picture from the selected motion vector, thereby improving possibility that a direct mode is selected as a prediction mode of a macro block. A motion vector inducing method of a B(Bi-predictive) block comprises the following steps. If a co-located block located in a reference picture has list 1 and list 0 motion vectors, the list 0 motion vector of the co-located block is selected as a motion vector for inducing a motion vector of the B block. At least one motion vector of the B block is induced by applying bit operation, for performing right shifting as much as 8 bits, to the selected motion vector. |
