An object for removing water from an investment casting slurry in a mould sleeve 10 comprises water absorbent material 70 and has at least a portion of its outer surface being water permeable thereby providing fluid communication from outside of said object with said water absorbent material 70. It further comprises either means for sealing onto an end of a sleeve 10 or a through hole so that the object can be placed on a projection 72 with the water absorbing material surrounding the projection 72. The water absorbent material may be plaster, silica, wood pulp, paper pulp and/or vermiculite and is either compressed together into a unitary body or held together in a container. |
