Electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery is provided to obtain a lithium secondary battery with excellent fire retardancy and improved battery performance, by comprising a fluorine or phosphorus-containing cyclic organic compound as a flame retardant additive. Electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery comprises a lithium salt, solvent, and a fluorine or phosphorus-containing cyclic organic compound. The cyclic organic compound is the compound represented by the following chemical formula 1 or the chemical formula 2. In the chemical formula 1, R1, R2 and R3 are independently C1-10 alkyl group and a part or the whole of the hydrogen of the alkyl group can be substituted as fluorine. In the chemical formula 2, R4, R5, and R6 are independently C1-10 alkyl group and a part or the whole of the hydrogen of the alkyl group can be substituted as fluorine. |
