A method for manufacturing a charge generation material is provided to produce an oxy titanium phthalocyanie charge generation material having particles smaller than the existing particles, by adding a salt treatment step before an acid processing step and to prevent the environmental contamination. A method for manufacturing a charge generation material comprises the steps of: (i) synthesizing oxytitanium phthalocyanine crude; (ii) mixing the oxytitanium phthalocyanine crude with basic solution; (iii) mixing the salt-treated oxytitanium phthalocyanine crude with acids to form amorphous oxytitanium phthalocyanine; and (iv) converting the amorphous oxytitanium phthalocyanine into crystalline oxytitanium phthalocyanine after the acid treatment step.
