A method for equalizing an audio signal an image apparatus applying the same are provided to prevent attenuation of an audio and to provide a design with an esthetic sense by moving a speaker to a lower part of a TV. An image apparatus applying a method for equalizing an audio signal comprises the followings: a speaker(127) outputting the audio signal; an equalizer(125) equalizing the audio signal according to a control signal; a memory(170) storing adjustment values which are necessary to generate the optimized audio signal; and a control unit(150) obtaining distance from the speaker to a reflecting surface.
