A liquid crystal display is provided to enable local dimming by a small laser light source by using an optical source, thereby maximizing a contrast ratio and reducing manufacturing costs of an LCD BLU. A light source unit(110) generates and emits a laser light. A light guide panel(120) transmits the laser light emitted from the light source unit on the front surface uniformly. When using a laser light, a division film is formed to divide the light guide panel into a plurality of areas in order to enable local dimming. A plurality of light guide panels are separated each other at a fixed interval on the division film. A light transfer unit(130) is an optical fiber. One end of the light transfer unit is connected to the light source unit. Another end is respectively connected to optical switch elements(141~144). The light transfer unit transfers a laser light emitted from the light source unit to each light guide panel area through the optical switch elements. A controller(150) controls the overall operation of a BLU. The controller controls a switching operation of the optical switch elements. |
