The method involves detecting a stable state of a battery of a motor vehicle, and generating variation of current with terminals of the battery at rest for measuring simultaneous variations of the current and voltage with the terminals of the battery. A value of internal resistance (Rbat) of the battery is estimated from the variations of the current and the voltage. Health status (SOH) of the battery is determined by using a cartography linking the value of the internal resistance of the battery for estimations of the health status.
