The method involves regulating or adjusting level of maximum closing of valves or slots of a turbocharger (1) by an external or internal mechanic system, where the level of a maximum closing is corresponded to a level of a measured minimum permeability. A range value representing the level of the measured minimum permeability is stored on a physical support or on an electronic support. The value range is recorded in a memory e.g. electrically erasable programmable ROM, of a controller for controlling the turbocharger based on the recording. An independent claim is also included for a device for acquiring a level of minimum permeability of a variable geometry turbocharger of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
