<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch to an optimal communication mode, when a communication status varies caused by various factors. <P>SOLUTION: A printer device comprises a radio communication section 17 of a MIMO communication system and receives a signal from a mobile personal computer (PC). When communication starts, a distance measuring section 31 measures the distance to the PC and dispatches the distance to a control section 12. The control section 12 decides whether the distance is greater than a prescribed value and controls a space time coding/space division multiplexing (STC/SDM) mode selecting section 173. The STC/SDM mode selecting section 173 selects either an STC communication section 171 or an SDM communication section 173, in accordance with the control and switches thereto. Communication is performed by the communication section which has been switched.
