<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal panel which is excellent in image contrast and hardly causes color shift and to provide a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal panel includes: a liquid crystal cell; a first polarizer disposed on one side of the liquid crystal cell; a second polarizer disposed on the other side of the liquid crystal cell; and an optical compensation layer disposed between the first polarizer and the second polarizer; wherein a refractive index ellipsoid of the liquid crystal cell presents a relation of nz>nx=ny, while the optical compensation layer has a first optical compensation layer in which the refractive index ellipsoid presents a relation of nx>ny>nz and a second optical compensation layer in which the refractive index ellipsoid presents a relation of nx=ny>nz, at least disposed on the same side on the basis of the liquid crystal cell, and retardation in the thickness direction of the optical compensation layer presents a relation of Rth(450)>Rth(550)>Rth(650). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
