PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart various preferable characters to agriculturally useful plants by a biological means. SOLUTION: This method for inhibiting insect damage and promoting the growth or increasing the yield of the plants is provided by artificially infecting new endophyte bacteria belonging to the genus Herbaspirillum (e.g. bacterium of trust number NITE BP-193) to the plants belonging to Cruciferae, Gramineae, Leguminosae or Liliaceae.
