898,238. Testing fuel injectors. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. Jan. 23, 1961 [Jan. 21, 1960], No. 2625/61. Class 7(3). A device for .testing fuel-injection timing comprises a pressure responsive device 4, located in the supply pipe 11 to an injector, which converts the pressure rise on injection directly into an electrical impulse controlling a stroboscopic device S. The device 4 comprises a diaphragm 1 situated a small distance x from an iron core 5 inside an inductive winding 6, the core 5 having a magnet 8 at its upper end. The winding 6 is connected to an amplifier V. When the pressure in pipe 11 rises for injection, the diaphragm 1 reduces the gap x, reducing the flux in coil 6 and producing an electrical impulse which is amplified to cause the stroboscopic device S to flash the injection timing being read off a graduated engine-driven disc illuminated by the lamp. The inductive device 4 may be replaced by a capacitative device in which the operation of the diaphragm 1 varies a capacitance by moving two plates or plungers relative to one another; alternatively the diaphragm may produce modulation of a carrier frequency in the coil 6 by moving a core attached thereto within the coil. The pressure responsive device may alternatively comprise a pressure responsive quartz crystal. |
