PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display using a VA mode liquid crystal, in which viewing angle characteristics of luminance and chromaticity are improved. SOLUTION: When liquid crystal elements 22A, 22B in each pixel 20 using a VA mode liquid crystal are driven to display, the display driving of each pixel 20 is spatially divided into two to carry out division driving. This disperses changes in the gamma characteristics when the display screen is viewed in an oblique direction and improves viewing angle characteristics of the luminance compared with an operation without division driving. The maximum difference in driving voltages applied to the liquid crystal elements 22A, 22B in each division driving is controlled to be different from one another for the different pixels corresponding to R, G and B. The gamma characteristics when the display screen is viewed in an oblique direction can be individually adjusted for each of the pixels corresponding to R, G and B. Thus, coloring in an intermediate tone is decreased when the display screen is viewed in an oblique direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
