PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a better method for mixing a crystalline material in toner particles while avoiding problems related to inclusion of the crystalline material. SOLUTION: A method for making emulsion aggregation toner particles is provided which comprises the processes of: forming a plurality of nanoparticle cores by forming a nanoparticle core including a crystalline material; forming a nanoparticle shell covering individual ones of nanoparticle cores so as to form a core-shell nanoparticle, wherein the nanoparticle shell includes such an amorphous material that the shell substantially or completely encompasses the nanoparticle core; forming an emulsion of a plurality of core-shell nanoparticles; and aggregating the emulsion so as to form cores of toner particles. The nanoparticle shell is substantially or completely free of the crystalline material and the core-shell nanoparticles have an average particle size of about 1-250 nm.
