PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously connect a radio terminal to a communication network, without requiring vast introduction cost and operation cost, even when the radio terminal cannot be connected to an authentication server. SOLUTION: This authentication system for authenticating the radio terminal is an authentication system in which the radio terminal requests authentication from the authentication server. A radio base station has an authentication request packet transmission means for transmitting an authentication request packet to the authentication server, an authentication server operation confirming means for determining as normally operating when receiving an authentication response packet from the authentication server and determining as being not normally operating when the authentication response packet is not received, and an authentication server switching means for switching to a normally operating authentication server when the authentication server is not normally operated. The authentication server has an authentication determining means for comparing authentication request information with preregistered radio terminal authentication information by acquiring the authentication request information, and an authentication response packet authentication server transmitting means for transmitting the authentication response packet in coincidence.
