PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission medium with an optical element in which both are more reliably and easily aligned in a self-alignment way. SOLUTION: The optical transmission medium 1 with an optical element is characterized in that a ferrule 3 having a tapered part 4 formed on the outer circumference of its end is attached to the end part of an optical fiber 2, an optical element 7 is attached to the end face 5 of the optical fiber 2 and the ferrule 3 with an adhesive 6, and the center of the optical element 7 is aligned with the center of the optical fiber 2 by the weight of the optical element 7 and by the surface tension of the adhesive 6.
