PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the number of a given color chip to which the color of an object corresponds. SOLUTION: A color chip processing apparatus includes a database in which a plurality of pieces of spectral reflection factor information on a color ship have been stored; a color-chip determining section which uses a color-chip ID of a first color chip, determined as the color of a subject and spectral information on determining illumination, with the information being information on illumination for use in color-chip determination, thereby calculating subject spectral information, under the determining illumination, which uses a plurality of pieces of spectral reflection factor information on the color chip as read out from the database and spectral information on transform color-chip illumination, with the information being information for use in color-chip determination by another color chip different from the first color chip, thereby calculating a plurality of pieces of color-chip information under the transform color-chip illumination, which determines which of the plurality of pieces of color-chip information, under the transform color-chip illumination is similar to the subject spectral information thus calculated, and which outputs a color-chip ID of another color specifying the type of color chip thus determined; and display means which displays the color chip ID of the another color chip.
