PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for an internal combustion engine in a starting stage to control an engine speed flare, and also to provide a device for restoring at least part of energy used to start the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An alternator load is controlled to increase a load on the engine in at least part of the starting stage. Thus, even when a basic ignition timing and/or fuel for starting the engine is changed to improve combustion stability, the alternator load is controlled to suppress the engine speed flare and/or restore starting energy.
