PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of compacting powder capable of preventing the generation of adhered matter onto the lower part of the side face or bottom face of an upper punch. SOLUTION: The method of compacting powder is for compacting powder by applying a compression force to a forming chamber 57 demarcated by a die 3 and a lower punch 5, with the upper punch 7, and drawing out the compacted body from the die. At first, a peeling member 9 moving in the ascending/descending direction of the upper punch is prepared. The peeling member is arranged at the position where a peeling part 53 of the peeling member is higher than the position, in the state that the upper face of the lower punch is flush with or above the upper face of the die, also the bottom face of the upper punch is in contact with the compacted body. Then, the upper punch and the lower punch start action to mutually separate, and the adhered matter adhered to the upper punch is peeled from the upper punch by making the adhered matter adhered to the upper punch abut on the peeling part.
