PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the addition of an alkylene oxide to an active hydrogen-containing compound at a high efficiency even when a liquid reaction mixture having a high viscosity is used. SOLUTION: When the alkylene oxide is added to the active hydrogen-containing compound and the viscosity of the reactive liquid is 10 mPa s or more, the method for stirring the liquid is provided by rotating a blade installed continuously in a vertical direction in the inside of a stirring reactor so that a numerical value C represented by following formula (1) (wherein A is an increased immersed length (m) of the blade when the alkylene oxide is fed, h<SB>1</SB>is a height (m) of a liquid surface before the alkylene oxide is fed, and h<SB>2</SB>is a height (m) of a liquid surface after the alkylene oxide is fed) can be 0.5 or more.
