PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism that has an environmental pollutant degrading ability for cleaning environmental polluted water such as seawater, brackish water etc., and a method for isolating the microorganism. SOLUTION: The method for isolating a microorganism, as a microorganism that grows in a high salt concentration in seawater, brackish water etc., from seawater is provided. The method isolating a microorganism degrading an environmental pollutant comprises culturing the isolated microorganism using the environmental pollutant as an only one carbon source.
