<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage water heater capable of surely confirming whether the storage water heater itself can be normally operated or not with a simple control constitution. <P>SOLUTION: This storage water heater comprises a test operation mode for supplying hot water to a hot water storage tank by operating a heat pump heating source, and the test operation mode has various stop conditions for normally stopping the test operation according to existence or nonexistence of remaining hot water in the hot water storage tank 3. The existence or nonexistence of remaining hot water is determined on the basis of a detected temperature of the hot water storage tank. When the remaining hot water does not exist, the operation is stopped when the temperature rise of the hot water in the hot water storage tank 3 is detected.
