PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To run a hybrid railway vehicle, in which a powerplant and a generator are combined and which runs so that it may not interfere with a diagram, by performing the appropriate charge and discharge control of a storage battery, according to a driver's way of running. SOLUTION: This electric vehicle is equipped with a first power converter which converts DC power outputted from the generator into DC, a second power converter which converts the DC output power outputted from the first power converter into AC, and a motor which is connected to the second power converter. This electric vehicle supplies the second power converter and the energy storage device with DC output power outputted from the first power converter, and estimates the electric energy regenerated during running, based on a predetermined running pattern, and controls the amount of charge/discharge of electric energy accumulated in the energy storage device, based on the estimated electric energy.
