PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacturing method of a display device in which holes are bored in a pair of substrates using a water jet without causing breakage. SOLUTION: When a closed annular seal material is formed between a first substrate and a second substrate which are disposed oppositely to each other and holes are bored in an area enclosed by seal material by cutting the first substrate and second substrate, the first substrate and second substrate are cut by relative movement of the water jet to the first substrate and second substrate from a place where the water jet penetrates the first substrate and second substrate as a start point, and a gap burying member is formed in advance at the place of the start point between the first substrate and second substrate.
