PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrying device capable of providing driving force according to changes even if a load during carrying is changed, and providing stable action when documents having different carrying loads are carried; and a controlling method of the carrying device. SOLUTION: The carrying device comprises a carrying roller carrying recording paper or documents, a DC motor driving the carrying roller and connected to the carrying roller, and a pulse motor driving the carrying roller and connected to the carrying roller. A carrying controlling means is provided, which makes the DC motor carry the recording paper when the recording paper is carried, and makes both of the DC motor and the pulse motor carry the document when the document is carried.
