PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge a deformation energy area by constructing a bumper stay to enable a maximum reactive load point in its cylindrical part to be maintained in a rectangular wave form in the process of a crushing stroke as long as possible. SOLUTION: The bumper stay 1 disposed between a vehicle body frame member 2 of an automobile 10 and a bumper reinforcement 3 is integrally constructed of a main body section 1a having the cylindrical part 1a-1, which extends opposite to a bumper reinforcement 3 side and absorbs impact force from the bumper reinforcement 3 side, and a mounting flange section 1b which is formed on an end side of the cylindrical part 1a-1 opposite to a vehicle body frame member 2 side and is installed to the vehicle frame member 2, wherein an axial intermediate portion in the main body section 1a is provided with a wall thick part 1a-4 formed to be thicker than the thickness of a general part.
