PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for lubricating rolls of a hot rolling mill by which slip when biting a rolled stock is exactly deterred while preventing the seizure and clogging of the headers of nozzles when performing oil lubrication between work rolls and back up rolls by jetting lubricating oil through the nozzles onto the roll surfaces for preventing the surface wear and surface roughening of the work rolls of the hot rolling mill. SOLUTION: When supplying the lubricating oil 30 onto the back up rolls 12a, 12b by water injection method, the pressure of water to be supplied is controlled to a prescribed value by making a pressure reducing circuit 29 OFF during rolling and the lubricating oil 30 is jetted so as to reach the back up rolls 12a, 12b and also the pressure of the water to be supplied is reduced by making the pressure reducing circuit 29 ON in the interval of rolling and the lubricating oil 30 is jetted so as not to reach the back up rolls 12a, 12b.
