PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology inhibiting a combustion state in an internal combustion engine from getting unstable, in an exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine provided with an EGR device re-circulating a part of exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine to an intake system. SOLUTION: Exhaust gas to which fuel is not added from a fuel addition valve is stored in an air storage tank before carrying out fuel addition control to a NOx catalyst (S102-S105). When fuel addition control is carried out, exhaust gas to which fuel is added is prohibited from being re-circulated by an EGR device, and exhaust gas stored in the air storage tank is introduced into an intake pipe (S107-S110).
