PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid an increase in size while simplifying processing and the formation of oil passages by using a pair of spool valves in a valve control device of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine in which the hydraulic pressure acting on a hydraulic valve operation manner changing mechanism is controlled by a hydraulic control means having a holder attached to a cylinder head and a spool valve formed by slidably storing a spool valve element in a valve body attached to the holder. SOLUTION: The hydraulic valve control means 108R comprises the first spool valve 111 used to selectively change over the hydraulic pressure of an original pressurized oil passage 145 to first and second oil passages 171, 172 independent of each other and acting it thereon and the second spool valve 112 connected to the first spool valve 111 through the first and second oil passages 171. 172.
