摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a downright backlight unit capable of forming a light emission distribution according to specific light transmission characteristics such as an OCB liquid crystal panel, and reduce viewing angle dependency of the liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The direct backlight unit is provided with a light source and an optical film opposed to this light source and emits light of a specific emission pattern PA2 as shown by a pole point figure in which emission luminance in an arbitrary direction is expressed with a contour line by a pole angle showing an inclined angle from a normal of an emission face of the optical film and an azimuth angle &psi; showing a rotation angle from a specific direction in the emission face. The emission pattern PA2 has an anisotropy in which the difference between the luminance maximum value and the luminance minimum value to the omnidirection of the same pole angle becomes 10% or more to the maximum luminance value, and has a luminance distribution which becomes nearly axial symmetry shape respectively to the short axis direction in which the emission luminance become minimum at the same pole angle and the long axis direction to orthogonally cross this. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
