<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To much more easily input desired characters. <P>SOLUTION: Characters are displayed along the side of a display part, and a position where the finger is brought into contact with a touch pad formed along the side and a position where the finger is released are detected so that characters can be input. That is, the characters are grouped, and the list of characters representing each group is displayed (step S102).
