Disclosed is a contrast agent having (1) high contrast ability, (2) low toxicity and (3) easy producibility. Specifically disclosed is a contrast agent containing a silsesquioxane represented by the following general formula (I). (In the formula (I), R1 represents a group bonded to Si through a carbon, namely a substituent having a group represented by the general formula (II) below or the general formula (III) below at an end, and R1's may be the same as or different from one another.) (In the formula (II), p represents an integer of 1-5; q's may be the same or different and each represents an integer of 1-5; and R2's may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aralkyl group or an acyl group.) (In the formula (III), p, q and R2 are as defined above.)
