<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffractive optical element for a backlight, which distributes light with a simple structure to almost uniformly illuminate a plane, and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The diffractive optical element for the backlight diffracts light from a light source, and emits diffracted light so as to form a ring-shaped intensity distribution in which intensity is stronger in the peripheral part of the optical axis than that in its center thereof. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
